The evil eye is a talisman or amulet, designed in the shape of an eye that provides spiritual protection. These talismans or evil eye “repellents” come in different forms and are worn as pendants or can be hung in the home.  The earliest known evidence for belief in the evil eye goes back to Greek Classical antiquity and can be found in many cultures around the world.  Despite the differences in the cultures which hold the myth, it retains largely the same meaning no matter where the story is told.  Two popular designs are either a concentric blue and white circle made to symbolize the evil eye known as the nazar or a hand-shaped symbol with the evil eye on the palm known as the hamsa or hand of God.
